Antifouling techniques

Present antifouling techniques

Biofouling can be prevented by different techniques including paints and mechanical methods such as boat washers, manual washing, ultra sound, boat hull protectors and boat lifting and washing. The antifouling effect of most paints is controlled by the incorporation of biocides into the paint formulation which are slowly being released at the paint film/water interface. Other paints rely on physical properties such as fouling release paints which are free from biocides. These paints are usually silicon based and forms a smooth non-stick surface on the hull where fouling organisms have problems to attach.
